I wouldn’t criticize you if you tried to say this was a normal Porsche 959, as the body does look pretty similar to the production car. However, this isn’t the case. In fact, as if being one the few surviving examples of just 12 prototypes built didn’t make this car rare enough, it’s also one of the few that were finished in Ruby Red. The car was apparently designed specifically for electric system testing and hot weather testing on the U.S. West Coast and in Europe.

Still need proof that this is an authentic prototype, well that proof comes on the inside. Throughout the testing phase, several different interior layouts were installed, including one with different seats. You can find extra and disconnected electric wiring under the passenger seat along with hard mounts for the electronic testing equipment next to the rear seats. The car is also lacking power steering, ride-height control, a passenger-side mirror, alarm, windshield washer, and the fuel filler cap among other things.

How much do you think the asking price is?

Swipe up to learn more about it, see the full gallery, and find a link to the sale listing!

After the Porsche 969 hit the production lines, Porsche destroyed most of the other prototypes that were built alongside this one. This car, however, was imported into the U.S. in the latter half of the 1980s and was displayed like a trophy at the HQ of Vasek Polak – a Porsche importer and dealer. Sometime after that, it was shipped off to Japan for demonstrational activities before being sold to Belgium and later the United Kingdom. The car eventually made it back to its homeland of Germany, where it’s currently on sale. According to the listing, it has just 26,520 km (16,478 miles) on the odometer, but the asking price is a mystery. If you’re interested in owning a very rare care, you’ll have to contract the owner through Mechatronik to find out how much you’ll have to shell out.

Porsche 911 Sport Classic Caught Testing Exterior Spyshots - image 1042616

Our spy photographers caught the upcoming Porsche 911 Sport Classic out for a new testing session on the public roads of Germany. As you can see the car is missing most of the camouflage which means the testing sessions are pretty much done, and all that is left is mostly fine tuning.

The prototype follows the design lines of the 911 models, but there will be a few distinctive features. First one is of course that little ducktail at the back – a signature of the Sport Classic models. The 911 Sport Classic will also feature a double bubble roof and the lines of the special hood will match perfectly the lines of the roof.

Porsche 911 Sport Classic Caught Testing Exterior Spyshots - image 1042615

The only camouflage we can see on this prototype is some tape around the sides of the ducktail spoiler and in the middle of the rear light arrangement.

As for the engine, rumors suggest the 911 Sport Classic will get the same engine as the 911 GTS: a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six that delivers 480 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.

Rumors suggest Porsche will only build 2,000 units of the 911 Sport Classic.

Weight distribution and chassis are being attentively inspected

The restoration process starts with a very detailed inspection of the car. The most important step will be to understand the original weight distribution so that Lunaz will further know how to adapt the chassis setup, powertrain packaging, and suspension. The process continues with the removal of the internal combustion engine and associated systems.

Next, the chassis is being prepared for re-engineering and electrification. The powertrain has been developed entirely in-house and features the very highest standard European-sourced Tier 1 OEM battery cells and motors. The battery pack ranges from 80 to 120 kWh and offers a range of 255 miles.

Picking the materials for the exterior and the interior is also a very meticulous process. The color palettes are explored and visualized using both 2D sketch work and advanced 3D modelling. Customers can choose between traditional materials and more contemporary ones that will provide an interior free from animal-derived materials. For example, customers can get carpets which are woven from fishing nets recovered from the sea.

There will be a huge selection of colors and materials, so every customer will have the exact DB6 of their dreams.

  • Audi Is Befuddled About What a Sports Car Really Is

    A Self-Driving Sports Car?

Audi Is Befuddled About What a Sports Car Really Is - image 1005750

With the recent influx of electric cars and a huge push to make them more mainstream, the chatter about autonomous cars has boiled down to a small roar at best. Every now and then a new concept or an Elon Musk tweet pops up to remind us that self-driving cars will eventually happen, but otherwise, the market’s main focus today is on electric mobility. And, here comes Audi with a sports car concept that we assume is electric, but that’s where the twist comes in because it’s also billed as an autonomous car. Or, more specifically, it’s a “sports transformation vehicle” that can transform into an autonomous lounge.

Audi Is Befuddled About What a Sports Car Really Is - image 1005620

Is it really possible to have a self-driving sports car? Not driving said car kind of defeats the purpose of having the sports car itself, right? That’s our thinking anyway, and I’m sure most of you will agree. Apparently Audi is a little confused here, but not without proper sentiment at least. The teaser for the Sky Sphere concept comes courtesy of a new video staring Audi’s Senior VP, Henrick Wenders, and the company’s Head of Design, Marc Lichte. Oh, and it also starts a gorgeous 1937 Horch 853A Cabriolet.

What’s the relevance to the 853A? Well, it served as an inspiration of sorts for the Sky Sphere concept. Clearly, this isn’t a direct relation, but more of a spiritual one. In the video, Lichte said,

“The basis for good design are proportions. These proportions are simply awesome – long wheelbase, no overhang, huge bonnet. This car offers kind of the road feeling. All of this is the inspiration for our concept car, the Sky Sphere.”

Audi Is Befuddled About What a Sports Car Really Is - image 1005618

We don’t know much else about the Sky Sphere Concept. We assume the interior will be over-the-top luxurious and futuristic. The powertrain will likely be electric and borrowed from the 2022 Audi E-Tron GT. As of now, there is no intent for the Sky Sphere to become a production model, but it does at least raise a little bit of hope that Audi won’t give up on sports cars in a time where SUVs and Crossovers are all the rage. It still raises the question of who thought it was a good idea to blend a sports car with an autonomous lounge. If you have a sports car, you want to drive it right? Not be driven around in something that looks fast. A little confusing? Sure, but at least the concept will definitely look cool.

2021 Audi E-Tron GT Exterior Wallpaper quality - image 970014

When it comes to motorsports, Audi has an illustrious racing past. The Bavarian carmaker has conquered the Nurburgring 24-hour race five times since 2012. Audi has shattered several records with its diesel and gas-powered cars, and it appears that it is all set to do the same with its EVs.

Audi has taken a huge step forward with its all-electric 2021 Audi RS e-Tron GT. The futuristic electric vehicle shares a significant number of similarities with its sibling vehicle, the Porsche Taycan. Furthermore, the RS e-Tron GT is equipped with dual electric motors.

The standard e-Tron GT has 522 hp, whereas the RS model packs 646 hp.

This power is translated into pin-you-back-in-your-seat acceleration thanks to an innovative two-speed transmission. The E-Tron’s first gear is purely for launching, while the second gear is used to improve efficiency.

We have an R8 to represent the past, which Audi plans to discontinue. The mid-engined supercar first appeared in back 2006, and Stark purchased one around two years later. The car used in this drag race is a second-gen 2021 R8 V10 Performance – Green Hell Edition. Now that’s a mouthful. The design pays homage to the R8 LMS GT race car. It is Audi’s badge of distinction for dominating the Green Hell.

The normally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine is plenty powerful on its own. It produces 620 hp and is coupled to a 7-speed S-Tronic gearbox with all-wheel drive. The R8 V10 Performance sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and tops out at 206 mph.

The R8 is down on power when compared to the RS E-Tron GT, but the EV has the drawback of being heavier than the R8. We know that Supercars with V10 engines are quick but quicker than electric cars? Let’s find out.

    Let the Race Begin

The Very Best From Ingolstadt Go Head-to-Head - The Ultimate Audi Showdown. - image 997736

Both cars line up and launch. One of them pulls ahead. Which one, though? Both Quattro cars had nearly identical launches although, the RS E-Tron GT took the lead almost immediately and does not let the R8 gain on it.

The race was over rather quickly. The E-Tron GT took 2.85 seconds to get from 0-60 mph and the Quarter mile was done in a blisteringly fast 10.69 seconds. The R8 meanwhile wasn’t far behind with a 0-60 time of 2.95 seconds and 10.95 seconds to complete the quarter-mile.

The drag race demonstrates how formidable electric cars are becoming. While the R8 lost the race with honor, it is clear that EVs will continue to grow and evolve.

    Final Thoughts

The RS E-Tron GT is a 4 door practical family sedan capable of transporting five passengers in utter silence around the Nurburgring. The R8 on the other hand is a purpose-built race car for the road. We can see how the gap in performance has closed between gas-powered cars and EVs.

Prior to the actual race, Auditography issued a disclaimer declaring that the showdown was held on a closed bit of road and. They, urge their audience to not attempt the same on public roads.

  • The Rimac Nevera Is So Tempting An Employee Couldn’t Refrain From Speeding

The Rimac Nevera On The Road, Doing Illegal Things

First off, what the driver of the Nevera is doing in this video is actually illegal as he’s seen hitting speeds of up to 232 km/h or about 144 mph on a two-way, dual-lane road new Dubrovnik, Croatia. According to information in the video title, at his max speed, the driver is doing some 142 km/h or 88 mph over the speed limit. On the plus side, and despite the fact that the road seems fairly thin, traffic at the time the video was recorded wasn’t all that dense so the only real danger was for the driver and passenger. So what happens when you do 232 km/h in a 90 km/h zone? Well, we’re not sure, but we promise it’s probably not good. In most countries across Europe and even in the United States, that kind of speed is enough for the police to invite you to hand over your license for a while – a fate that probably doesn’t work out to well for a guy that works for an automobile manufacturer of any caliber.

Following the release of the video, Rimac found and CEO, Mate Rimac, issued a public apology for the 41-year-old driver’s actions and included a bit about how the driver himself called the police to report his on-road crime.

“Our attitude is clear: we inform all customers, guests, and employees that driving is happening on public roads and that they must follow the law. The driver from the video called the police himself. The police came and conducted an interview and will be punished as anyone else would be punished in this situation. For other rides, we will be better careful and supervising. I apologize for the inconvenience.”

With that in mind, I can’t help but wonder how that conversation went down the after the video made its rounds and into the view of anyone at Rimac. Did Mate Rimac put on his gangster shades and direct the driver to report his actions to the police or were things more laid back with a few “what the *** were you thinking” moments in the middle. I suppose we’ll never know, but according to Croatian newspaper Index.hr, the driver is facing some kind of chargers for excessive speed on D8 in Ratac. I doubt we’ll here more about it, but it goes to show how easily people can be tempted to enjoy extreme power when we have it on tap. In honesty, I probably would have done the same, but I wouldn’t have let my buddy record it and post it online. But, as they say, you live and you learn, right?

    2021 Maserati MC20 'Aria' By 7 Designs - image 990314

The Maserati MC20 is a handsome car and we would be disappointed if the addition of the kit would bring in big changes. Perhaps, 7 Designs understands this too and has refrained from going berserk in terms of looks. The company noted that the initial plan was to make a full-body panel conversion kit for the Italian supercar. But, it shifted its focus to develop a kit that works with the original body.

The kit that 7 Designs has come up with consists of eight carbon fiber components and replaces only the unpainted parts of the MC20. These include:

    • Front lip spoiler
    • Canards on the front bumper
    • Widened side skirt
    • Carbon mirror covers
    • Roof scoop
    • Door fin accent
    • Rear wing
    • Rear diffuser

    2021 Maserati MC20 'Aria' By 7 Designs - image 990318

These components give the factory look a little more aggression without hampering the original design. The thin, deep lip spoiler at the front increases downforce at higher speeds, while the pair of canards on the bumper guide the airflow to the corners for increased stability. The diffuser helps create a smooth slipstream while reducing the drag at the rear. The wing also helps generate downforce at high speeds.

What’s The Maserati MC20 All About?

    2021 Maserati MC20 'Aria' By 7 Designs Exterior - image 934143

Maserati marked its return to the supercar fold with the MC20 in September 2020. This is the company’s fourth mid-engined car and is touted as a spiritual successor to the MC12, although it shares no similarities with it, other than the grille, to some extent. If you’re a fan of subtle, plain-Jane designs, the MC20 will please you. It will be offered in six different colors.

The MC20 is powered by a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo V-6 engine that churns out 621 horses and 538 pound-feet of torque.

Power is sent to the wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It takes just 2.9 seconds to sprint to 60 mph from rest and will have a top speed of over 202 mph.

    Conclusion

    2021 Maserati MC20 'Aria' By 7 Designs - image 990326

    2021 Maserati MC20 'Aria' By 7 Designs - image 990326

Every component will come with a gloss carbon fiber weave. Wheel options to complement the kit will also be launched along with the kit. The company mentioned it will build only 25 of these kits for the MC20. The price hasn’t been announced, but expect it to cost a bomb given the exclusivity.

  • The Lotus Evija “Doesn’t Disappoint” With An “Unmistakable Lotus Feel”

    Maintaining That Lotus Feel

The Evija may be a completely different animal than the rest of the brand’s lineup, but it still has that “unmistakable Lotus feel”.

James Hazelhurst, who is a lead engineer in Lotus, describes that quick establishment of a connection between the driver and the car that comes with every Lotus and how the Evija has managed to retain that.

For the most part, Lotus has made minimalistic sports cars with a focus on the chassis and lightweight. Despite the Evija featuring substantial F1 technology the likes of which no other road-going Lotus has ever had, the connection between driver and machine, which is the brand’s main selling point, is undeniably there.

The Lotus Evija "Doesn't Disappoint" With An "Unmistakable Lotus Feel" Exterior - image 879621

The Lotus Evija "Doesn't Disappoint" With An "Unmistakable Lotus Feel" Exterior - image 879621

To recap, the Evija has four electric motor – one for each wheel – with a combined output of 1,972 horsepower (1,471 kilowatts) at 1,254 pound-feet (1,70 Nm). According to Louis Kerr – principal platform engineer for the Evija – he is certain that the production car’s torque figure will be higher than the current one. At this point, we know that the 0 to 186 mph (300 km/h) sprint will be dealt with in under 9.0 seconds and the top speed will be well over 200 mph (322 km/h).

As with other hyper EVs, there are a couple of drive modes. In the Evija, those are Range, City, Tour, Sport, and Track. The first two give you only 1,000 horsepower, with the latter also adjusting the level of regenerative braking for a smoother driving experience. Tour mode gives you 1,400 horsepower and enables torque vectoring, while Sport mode gives you 1,700 horsepower. For the full 2,000 horsepower, you have to go in Track mode.

    Lotus Evija specifications
    Powertrain Four electric motors
    Battery 70 kWh battery pack
    Horsepower 1,972 horsepower
    Torque 1,254 pound-feet of torque
    Transmission Four single-shift gearboxes
    Weight 3,703 pounds
    Power-to-Weight Ratio 1,174 horsepower – ton (estimate)
0 to 60 MPH Less than three seconds
    Top Speed Over 200 mph
    Electric range 250 miles (estimate)
    Price $2.07 million

The Lotus Evija "Doesn't Disappoint" With An "Unmistakable Lotus Feel" Exterior - image 879837

Attribute director Gavin Kershaw explains how the Evija’s advanced technology makes it equally composed both in high-speed cornering and more technical sections while giving you all the pros of electric propulsion without any of the cons (except the noise). The chief platform engineer also adds that the Evija is already the quickest car around the Hethel track – a location here many iconic drivers and cars have set record times over the years. Moreover, the Evija is already quicker than expected, so it will be interesting to see how much more performance they can extract out of the platform.

The Lotus Evija "Doesn't Disappoint" With An "Unmistakable Lotus Feel" Exterior - image 986172

The Lotus Evija "Doesn't Disappoint" With An "Unmistakable Lotus Feel" Exterior - image 986172

    Kershaw adds that

“It has Formula One acceleration, but in a closed cockpit, so it’s like a Group C racer, but with an instant delivery of all the power, all the torque, and the very latest toolbox of electric aids.”

The car is further described as physics-defying, but the most important thing is that, despite all the tech and performance, it still holds true to the original Lotus philosophy. Now, we just have to wait and see how much of it, the Evija will embody.
