The Subaru WRX STI wagon is tuned by Racedynamix. It features a 2.0-liter, EJ207 STI engine that makes 500 horses. The mods on this build include an SC46 turbo, a five-speed Pfitzner Performance gearbox that powers all four wheels, and a Syvecs S6 ECU with anti-lag, launch control, flat-foot shifting, and rolling launch. It rides on semi-slick tires on all four corners.

The Volkswagen Golf R Estate is powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine. Power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The mods on it include a Venom 500 turbo, an Autotech high-pressure fuel pump, a Revo low-pressure fuel pump, and a Wagner intercooler. It is riding on Michelin PS4S tires.

The Subaru weighs 1,150 kilos (2,535 pounds), giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 434 BHP/ton. The Volkswagen has a stripped interior, but still weighs 1,500 kilos (3,307 pounds) – significantly more than the Scooby. This gives it a power-to-weight ratio of 333 BHP/ton.

    0-60 mph: Winner – Volkswagen

The Subaru took just 3.168 seconds to touch the mark, but the VW was even quicker. It sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in 2.974 seconds

The first round was the 0-60 mph individual test. Here, the Subaru took just 3.168 seconds to touch the mark. The Volkswagen, on the other hand, was quicker. It took just 2.974 seconds to touch 60 mph from a standstill. Well, thank the dual-clutch auto gearbox and the all-wheel-drive system.

    Winner: Volkswagen Golf R Estate

    Quarter-Mile Run: Winner – Subaru

The Scooby ran the distance in 11.382 seconds at 125.66 mph. The German was almost as quick, taking 11.507 seconds at 122.49 mph to complete the distance

The Scooby went first and ran the quarter-mile in 11.382 seconds with a trap speed of 125.66 mph. The Volkswagen Golf R Estate was a tad bit slow, but still fairly impressive. It took 11.507 seconds at 122.49 mph to complete the quarter-mile distance.

Seeing how closely matched both the wagons were in their respective quarter-mile runs, the race was going to be exciting. The Subaru was quicker off the line in the first race and managed to keep the lead till the very end. It looked like it would be a mighty close race, perhaps one of the cars beating the other by the nose, but it wasn’t. The WRX STI wagon beat it by at least three car lengths.

The driver of the Golf R Estate, Yuri, wanted to give it another shot. So, they raced again to see if the German wagon would get a better and smoother start off the line. As it turns out, it did! The Golf R Estate sped off the line, leaving the WRX STI in the dust. The latter was able to get quite close by the end, but not enough to win. With the way the Subaru was going, the result could’ve been different had this been a half-mile race. But, the Japanese hit a snag and that could’ve been the reason for the result.

The next two races belonged to the VW. In one of these, the Subaru hit a hurdle, but the next one was as close as it could get, which the German eventually won again

After fixing it up, they raced for the third time, and this was the closest race of them all. The wagons were neck-and-neck halfway, but then the Volkswagen edged slightly forward. In the end, it won by barely a car length.

    Winner: Volkswagen Golf R Estate

    Roll Race

The rolling race was up next. The Subaru had a better kickdown here and got the lead as soon as they touched the starting line. The Volkswagen couldn’t catch it and eventually lost the race. There was just one roll race, and it belonged to the WRX STI wagon.

    Winner: Subaru WRX STI

It seems that the 24 Hours of Le Mans is becoming an increasingly attractive proposition for automakers. The latest brand to join the hybrid hypercar initiative is none other than Cadillac. They have officially announced that a car for the LMDh (Le Mans Daytona Hybrid) category is being developed, for which it will maintain its alliance with specialist, Dallara.

“We are excited to compete at the top level of international motorsport in the LMDh class beginning in 2023. Like motorsport, Cadillac is making the transition into a future driven by alternative propulsion. The hybrid nature of the LMDh rules will help us to bridge our technology transfer to our all-electric future. We are excited to carry forward our success and continue to transfer our learnings and technology from the track to our production vehicles. We have had great success with the championship-winning Cadillac DPi-V.R and look forward to building on that record into the future with the next generation Cadillac LMDh.” – Cadillac Global Vice President Rory Harvey

The American automaker just announced that it will soon be competing in the WEC (World Endurance Championship) and IMSA (American Championship) with a prototype that meets the LMDh (Le Mans Daytona Hybrid) regulations.

This announcement comes as no surprise, as General Motors, is already involved with the American teams Ganassi and Action Express Racing. They have already signed up several drivers including the likes of Pipo Derani, who finished fourth in Sunday’s 24 Hours with Glickenhaus, Renger Van der Zande, and Alex Lynn.

Chip Ganassi: “We are looking forward to the new international prototype formula and running the Cadillac LMDh. We have had a great relationship across three different racing disciplines with GM and we are looking forward to developing the car with Cadillac and Dallara over the next year-and-a-half.”

With this announcement, Cadillac is going to return to Le Mans two decades after their last participation. Actually, during this time, they haven’t completely abandoned endurance racing, having participated in the 24 Hours of Daytona with four wins and thrice at the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Dallara will continue to be their technical ally, but they will also build the project on two solid pillars of Chip Ganassi Racing and Action Express teams. The car is set to make its debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2023 and we can’t wait to see it in action.

  • There’s No Outrunning Nostalgia With This Sit-Down Arcade Cabinet

This brings back a lot of memories, doesn’t it?

Before NBA Jam took all my time and quarters, OutRun was one of my favorite arcade games. It didn’t matter that it was 8-bit or that I only had a faux Ferrari Testarossa to call as my own, OutRun was one of the games that got me started into car racing video games. You better believe that with Arcade1IUp offering a modern version of this classic in pure sit-down arcade form, the limited units that the company plans to sell will sell out faster than it takes the pseudo Ferrari to complete a stage in the game.

What does it mean to be a modern version of the classic game?

To be clear, Arcade1Up didn’t build era-specific units of the classic OutRun arcade game. While that would’ve been cool on its own merits, the available units are made up of modern pieces. The screen, for example, is a 17-inch color LCD screen, far more advanced than the old screens of the OG arcade. Dual speakers are also part of the package and, more importantly a comfortable bench seat that you can sit on for hours on end as you bleed your eyes dry playing the game.

Gas and brake pedals are included, as is a light-up marquee, variable volume switch, a clear protective control deck cover, and an anti-tip over strap.

How many games are included in the arcade?

This is the sweet surprise. If you’re buying this sit-down arcade game, you’re not just buying the old OutRun video game.

Three other games are included in the arcade, including a pair of sequels to the OutRun game: Turbo Outrun and Outrunners.

In addition, Sega’s classic kart racing game Power Drift is also included in the arcade. You can pick which game you want to play in the main menu and off you go.

I’m sold. How do I get one and how much does it cost?

You can order one now through Arcade1Up’s website. There are limited quantities available so you need to get going if you want one in your household in time for the Christmas season. A unit costs $499, not including shipping fees. It’s a steep price, sure, and there are other options that you can look into at that price range.

The range-topping Sony PlayStation 5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive retails for the same price and it’s expected to launch in time for the holiday season. It’s an interesting choice to make if you can only get one, but the best solution to that is to get both and be done with it. You don’t see an OutRun arcade game that often these days. Take advantage of the opportunity when there’s one available.
